Message from our Co-Founder
Dear Gardeners,
As the leaves continue to fall and the chill of November settles in, it's time to embrace the quieter moments in the garden. While many plants retreat for the winter, this month offers a unique opportunity to prepare for the upcoming growing season. Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just starting out, November is the month to reflect on the year’s successes and plan for future blooms.
In this issue, we’ll explore essential tasks to complete before the frost sets in, including soil preparation and mulching to protect your beds. We’ll also highlight winterizing techniques to safeguard your garden and houseplants. If you’re dreaming of vibrant spring colors, don't miss our suggestions for planting bulbs that will burst forth with life once the warmth returns.
Plus, we share our seed germination experiment below with bok choy, and explained our process so you can conduct your own experiment with our biofertilizer.
So grab your gloves and a warm cup of tea—let’s make the most of this transitional month and set the stage for a thriving garden in the spring!
We encourage you to contact us about any questions you have about our biofertilizer and how you can use it in your garden. Thank you for your continued support!
Yours very truly,
Le Luong, Co-Founder & CEO of Nurture Growth Biofertilizer

We are very happy to have a new member on our team!
Emma Ngo is an undergraduate third-year student at the University of Waterloo majoring in Biochemistry. She has always been interested in biology, but university has showed her the world of microbiology and made her fall in love with the practical applications. In October, she started her internship placement here at Nurture Growth Biofertilizer and will be assisting Ankita and Can in new product development.
In late October, Emma had an opportunity to join us at the SELECT USA Conference to learn about exporting into the USA and network with senior executives.

Bok Choy Seed Germination Experiment 🥬
In continuation of our seed germination experiments, bok choy seeds were used to check the efficacy as a seed treatment using Nurture Growth Biofertilizer. To carry out this assessment, we divided the seeds into two distinct groups. One group was soaked in distilled water, serving as the control, while the other group was immersed in Nurture Growth Biofertilizer solution prepared by dissolving 1 teaspoon of biofertilizer in 125 ml of water. This soaking process lasted for 3-4 hours for both groups, allowing for sufficient absorption of the water and biofertilizer.
|
|
Each group consisted of four replications, with 10 seeds per replication, ensuring a robust sample size for accurate results. After soaking, the seeds were carefully placed on paper towels, covered to maintain moisture, and stored in Ziplock bags to create a controlled environment. We monitored daily and recorded the seed germination from day 1 to day 10.
| |
|
|
The results revealed a significant difference between the two groups: the seeds treated with Nurture Growth Biofertilizer exhibited faster germination rates compared to those in the control group. This finding indicates that our biofertilizer significantly boosts seed germination, emphasizing its promising benefits for bok choy cultivation!

Thank you Team Select USA for inviting us to attend your conference and participate in your round table discussion about Women's Leadership and Empowerment in International Trade!
Hosted by Consul General Baxter Hunt and Diane Farrell, the Deputy Under Secretary for International Trade, we learned all about trade in the US and developed some wonderful connections. Emma, our intern also participated because we wanted to provide her with the opportunity to network and learn from the invaluable advice offered by these senior executives. It was a great day of learning and networking!

Stratus Vineyards Trial Update
We started conducting trials at Stratus Vineyards on Niagara-on-the-Lake, specifically on their Cabernet Franc grapes. They noted that last year was when their younger vines came online but were very weak and their canopy was very short.
After spraying our biofertilizer onto a section of these younger vines, they have seen an increase in vigor and noticed a growth in their canopy!

Malivoire Wine Company Trial Update
Being at the forefront of the Ontario wine industry, Malivoire Winery is a pioneer and leader in sustainable viticulture.
We started our trial runs on their Gamay grapes in Spring 2024, where they sprayed our biofertilizer on the younger vines. They noticed a difference in their canopy, as well as grapes ripening faster!
